DTN Closing Grain Comments 08/12 14:31
Corn Futures Jump as USDA Sees Stocks Falling
Row crops made a bullish move at midweek with gains seen even prior to the
release of mostly bullish estimates from USDA in the August edition of the
World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report. Corn futures
accelerated gains following the release, posting the largest daily gain for
most-active corn futures since mid-May during President Trump's visit to
Beijing. Outside energy markets were fractionally higher as well with little
sign of a lasting agreement to reopen and manage the Strait of Hormuz. The war
in the Black Sea rages on as well, with wheat futures trading bullishly in
response, with markets trading among daily highs prior to the release of USDA's
data at 11 a.m. CDT.
